Philippines Travel and Safety Information
Philippine Visa Requirements - When traveling to the Philippines, you must have a valid passport with an expiration date of at least six months beyond your arrival date. You will either arrive with a visa already in your passport (known as a 9a) or you will get a 21-day visitor visa stamp put in your passport when you arrive.
Once you arrive and you find that you want to stay longer, we can help you get your Philippines visa extension if need be. Some men do this as they really enjoy the Philippines and want to do some sightseeing while they are here.
Philippine Currency - The basic currency in the Philippines is the Philippine Peso. The current exchange rate is around 44 Pesos to the US Dollar (USD). The Philippine Peso is broken down into Centavos. There are 100 Centavos to One Peso. Coin denominations are; 1, 5 and 10 Pesos. There are also 5, 10, and 25 Centavo denominations. Paper Notes consist of 20, 50, 100, 500 and 1000 Peso notes. You will also hear Pesos being called Pisos in the Philippines.

Philippine Banking Facilities - Credit Cards such as Visa and MasterCard are widely accepted throughout the Philippines. Just about every store in the mall takes a credit card when shopping or dining. Traveler checks can be exchanged for cash at Business Centers in the malls or at many of the Money Exchanges. Hotels also exchange Travelers Checks, but at a lower exchange rate. The best option is to bring some cash and your ATM card so you can do cash withdrawals. There are many ATM Machines that are open 24 hours. Many of the ATM Machines now charge a 200 Peso fee for using an international ATM Card. There are many banks of different variety here and you can do just about any type of banking you need. The major banks are BPI and BDO.
What to bring - When you come to the Philippines be sure to bring some casual clothes and summer attire. It is also a good idea to bring some nice dress clothes, including slacks and dress shirt, for when you are being introduced to the ladies. This way you can look your best. Also bring your swim suit. If you forget something, there are plenty of shops to get it.
Philippine Weather - The climate of the Philippines is hot and humid most of the year round. It has dry and rainy seasons. You can expect temperatures ranging between 84 to 90 degrees most of the year. Some areas like Cebu are less prone to the high winds and rains as some other areas. The Philippines is also part of the typhoon belt so it's best to check the weather before traveling.
Philippine Language - The official language of the Philippines is Tagalog or Filipino. English is also their official language so most Filipinos speak and understand English very well.
Philippine Food - Traditional Filipino foods might be a little different than what you are used to back home. The food is very good and generally safe to eat. You can eat Filipino foods very cheap and you will love their seafood! You will have no problem finding many of the main brands of restaurants in the bigger cities like Manila, Cebu, and Davao. There are places like Outback Steakhouse, Chilis, TGIFs, Bubba Gump Shrimp, and many more international restaurants.
Medical Care - No shots are required when visiting the Philippines. If you need medical care, there are many excellent medical clinics and hospitals throughout the Philippines. Drug stores are everywhere. Also quality dental work can be done in the Philippines at a fraction of the cost of most other countries. Some come to visit us just for dental work. We can arrange that.
Local Transportation - For local transportation, we recommend using taxis as they are fairly cheap and air-conditioned. You can find other modes of Philippine transportation like planes, trains, buses, Jeepneys, trikes, pedicabs, and ferries. All depends on where you are going.
